Meet Ashley Holt and Dianne Garcia. This mother-daughter team decided to go into business together and opened J Ashley in November 2001. By some standards, the venture was a risky one for both - Ashley has a degree in civil engineering and Dianne had been a teacher.
But the two clearly have an eye for fashion, outfitting their shop in hip, upscale styles for casual, business, and formal occasions. "Jacksonville has no high-end department stores and was in desperate need of a great place to shop," says Ashley, "so we decided to open a shop that had great clothes you couldn't get anywhere else." They do most of their shopping in New York, Atlanta and Dallas markets. They are planning a trip to L.A. and Vegas to shop for Spring/Summer 2009. "Not many buyers in Florida shop the west coast market", Ashley says. She and her mother hope to find some great new designers and fun accessories to add to the shop.
They want their customers to come back again and again, not just because of the selection of clothing but because of the friendly atmosphere and overall shopping experience. "We love to shop and have fun together."
